“I pointed my fingers at the motorcyclist and shouted at him to stop”

This testimony following was given out last Sunday (12 February 2012) to the congregation at Bethel of Glory by Sister Diane.
It is a reflection of the truth that God answers our prayer and will give us the grace to flow in His compassion through us to bless others.

She said:
“On Monday 2 weeks ago, as I was turning from Relau into Sungai Ara at the traffic lights, the car in front of me suddenly stopped. I also braked my car just in time. However, I heard a loud bang at the back of my car and found that a motorcyclist has knocked into my car.

“He quickly shot past me and sped away. On impulse, as is my past habit, I chased after him. I pointed my fingers at the motorcyclist and shouted at him to stop. After a short chase, he stopped and I stopped near him. I got down from my car and as I was walking towards him and as I was opening my mouth to speak to him, the compassion of God came upon me.

“I began to ask him again and again, ‘How are you? Are you hurt? Is your leg OK? Is your bike OK?’ I even checked his leg and bike to see if there were any damage. He did not know what to say, except to say that 'I am alright, I am sorry.'

“I walked to the back of my car, saw little damage, and told him that he can go, without getting angry with him or scolding him. I later took the car to a mechanic who replaced a rear lamp that was damaged, costing me about RM 50.

“I thank God that God’s love and compassion can flow through me to bless another person, that I can love my enemies, and that I can flow with the Holy Spirit who lives in me. This is not my character before I came to know Jesus. But Jesus has melted my heart with His love and I am now His vessel to bless others.

“All glory be to Jesus!”

COMMENTS:
The Spirit of Jesus lives in all children of God. And God has given us a Spirit of power, of love and of self-control.
As children of God, we are commanded always to follow after the Spirit, and let His love flow through us to bless others.
In this way, people around us can experience the love of God and be touched and be changed by His love flowing through us.

I praise God that He is changing Sister Diane every day into the likeness of His Son Jesus.
I thank God that she was able to show compassion to the motorcyclist who knocked into her car.
That's a miracle in Penang!

2 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a Spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Galatians 5:16
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Matthew 5:43-45
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,  that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.

“I obeyed the Holy Spirit and gave the mechanic all I had”

This testimony about walking in the compassion of God was released to the congregation at Bethel of Glory last Sunday (12 February 2012) by Brother Ronald.

He said:
“In 1994, I was attending a Bible School in Bukit Dumbar. One day, we had an overnight prayer meeting and we finished way past midnight. As I was driving home on my motorbike, I saw a Chinese man pushing his motorbike up the hill.

“I felt led to help him and so I approached him. He was frightened on seeing me, since I was a huge in size and an Indian, and this was in the middle of the night.

“I asked him what happened, and he told me his bike was punctured and he had no money to repair his bike. At that time, the Bible School had given each student RM10 to sow into the lives of the needy and poor. So I called up a mechanic who came to fix the punctured tyre. I obeyed the Holy Spirit, and gave the mechanic all the money I had with me for the repair.

“Meanwhile, as the bike was being fixed, I sat on the pavement with the Chinese man and told him about “Yah Saw” (Hokkien word for Jesus). We tried to speak to each other in Malay, without great success; he could not understand English and I could not speak Hokkien much either.

“When the bike was repaired, I escorted him home. The wife was anxiously waiting for him, not knowing what had happened to him. I explained to her the situation in Malay and she was very thankful.

“Two days later, my new Chinese friend phoned up and asked me about this “Yah Saw” (Jesus) I was trying to tell him about. So I took a Hokkien-speaking believer along with me and we shared with him about the love of God through His Son Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins [Read on this blog “The Greatest Miracle of All” for the meaning of the cross of Jesus].

“He and his family believed in Jesus as Saviour and they are still serving God faithfully today.

“I thank God for allowing me to be the channel of His compassion so that I could bless a man in need and bring his family into an experience of the great love of God through His Son Jesus.

“To God be the glory!”

COMMENT:
That’s a miracle in Penang!
Every time we show the compassion of God to another person in need, it’s a miracle.

When the family heard the Good News of the kingdom of God and received Jesus as their Saviour, and have their names written in the book of life in heaven, that’s a miracle.

John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Luke 10:20
[Jesus said]: “However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

"The Secret is out: The Best Cendol in Penang is no longer found in Penang Road, but in .....

….. Balik Pulau!!!

About 30 years ago, when I first came to Penang from Seremban, my wife and I would visit the famous Penang Road cendol stalls whenever we went to Georgetown for shopping. For those aged 30 years and younger, believe me when I say that there were no Sunshine Square or Tesco or iphone at that time.

When my wife took the cendol, I resisted for the first 3 years. "How unclean, how barbaric, eating by the roadside!!!" However, by the fourth year, I could no longer hold back, seeing my wife’s great enjoyment at every spoonful. I threw caution to the wind, had my first bowl and was entrapped by those 2 cendol stalls. Both are equally good, no argument here.

However, over the last 15 years, we have hardly gone there, what with the lack of parking and also the blazing hot sun in the middle of the city. Moreover, we never had to go to Georgetown to shop any longer, having great supermarkets right at our doorsteps near Sungai Nibong. There was also no longer any craving for those 2 cendol stalls either. Out of sight, out of mind.

Nevertheless, God knows the desires of our heart, even in small things. Over the last 5 years, when we moved to Balik Pualu to live near the church outreach, we discovered a secret that few Penangnites know. The best cendol stall in Penang today is found in Balik Pulau!!!

Aromatic coconut sugar
with large red beans
and smooth cendol
soaked in thick "suntan"
This stall’s cendol is unique and exquisite, with a fragrant and strongly aromatic “gula Melaka” (black sugar), topped with thick “suntan” (coconut milk), served with generous portions of well-cooked big red beans. The cendol itself is fresh, smooth and soft, flavoured and coloured by real “pandan” leaves, unlike the frozen, hard and brittle cendol served by many low-grade cendol stores in Penang today, which use green dye to colour their cendol (Green dye is toxic to your health! Avoid such cendol!).

This stall was formerly hidden away in the old market, but for the last 3-4 years, it is now one of the most popular eateries in the new market. The ambience is good, with the stall facing the hill at the side of the new market, the hill itself being covered with green trees and bushes. Parking is ample, and there is never a lack of space. What great surroundings for a great bowl of the best cendol in Penang! (See photo below).

The greenery---trees and bushes---
facing the cendol stall
across the car park
The stall is run by a lovely couple, Mr. Khor Keat Soon and his wife Lim Geak Chu, with great service from their two sweet daughters.

If you ever do come to this stall, come no later than 3PM (by when it is all finished), and never on a Monday or Wednesday (these are their off days, unless it is a public holiday). If you register a “LIKE” on my Facebook link to this Blog-post, I promise to give you a free treat at this stall. Let me know through Facebook when you are coming (please come on a public holiday), and we shall meet up for this special treat.

Imagine this---the best cendol in Penang on a hot February afternoon---facing a hill with green trees and bushes, and then calculate what you have missed all these years, living on the wrong side of the island.
That’s a miracle in Penang!

"I would not be here today if I had not obeyed the voice of God"

Last Sunday, 5 February, Brother Ronald gave the following testimony to the congregation about his miraculous deliverance from great mortal danger.

He said:
"I will normally park my motorbike on the pavement outside the courthouse in Georgetown whenever I go there to do my business in the court premises. Last Wednesday, as I was parking my bike and as I was about to turn off the engine, a still small voice said to me, 'Do not park here.' The voice just came and went just like that.

"Sensing that it was the voice of the Holy Spirit, I quickly obeyed, drove my bike to Convent Light Street, parked the bike there, and walked back to the courthouse.

"As I was reaching the courthouse, I saw  a small container truck turning round the corner towards the courthouse. It suddenly went out of control and slammed into the row of bikes parked outside the courthouse, where I was supposed to have parked earlier. One man was pinned under the truck and another was injured.

"I entered the courthouse without stopping, sat down and began to shake, as I began to realize that I could have been injured, or I could have died, and my bike would have been badly damaged, had I not obeyed the voice of the Holy Spirit.

"I give all glory to God for His mercy to me and to my family.
I would not be here this morning if I had not obeyed the voice of God!"

COMMENT:
I thank God for His mercy to Ronald, to Caron his wife, and to their 5 lovely children, and to all of us in the congregation here at Bethel of Glory.
If Ronald had not obeyed the still, small voice of God, we would probably have been visiting him in the hospital or the hospital mortuary last week.

What a merciful God, protecting us from great danger, and sparing our lives from great tragedy and sorrow.
What an awesome God we serve!
That's a miracle in Penang!

In this new season, God desires all His children to spend time talking to Him, hear His voice, obey His Spirit, and do His will.
This way, we live under the shadow of His wings, kept safe from great danger and harm.

All of God's children can hear His voice, as Jesus promised in John 10.

John 10:1-3,10,14-16
“I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd."

PRAYER:
"Abba Father, thank You for Your miracle in saving Ronald's life last week. Open our spirit ears to hear Your voice at all times, and give us the grace and strength to obey You without hesitation and do Your will, so that Your kingdom and rule is established in our lives and on this earth.
In Jesus' name. Amen."

"Healing of a girl with an infected ear"

Last Sunday (5th February, 2012), Sister Ivy testified as follows before the congregation in our church concerning a miracle healing in her niece.

She said:
"My sister in Malacca has a daughter who is now in Form 2. When she was young, one of her ears was damaged. For the last few months that ear was infected with lots of pus oozing out.

"She saw many doctors and took lots of antibiotics. But the infection got worse. She was crying because of the pain in her head, and she missed classes and other school activities. Many have prayed for her, but she was no better.

"Last Wednesday, her mum asked her to call me in Penang to pray for her. I told my niece that after I have asked God to heal her, she must believe that it is done and begin to thank God. I began to pray for her and started to cry as I prayed, feeling her great pain in my heart.

"The next day, she rang up to say she was healed. My niece and her mum later on went to see two different doctors, and both of them told my niece that her ear is perfectly healthy.

"All glory to God for His miracle healing in my niece through the wonderful name of Jesus, the name above all names!!!"

COMMENT:
That's a miracle in Penang!
In the above testimony, the keys to the healing miracle in Ivy's niece were faith and compassion.

(a) KEY 1: To receive our miracle, we must believe (have the faith) that the miracle has come in the spirit realm the very moment we ask God. Therefore we must began to thank God for the healing by saying everyday: "Thank You Abba Father, for healing me."

This is taught by Jesus in Mark 11:24, where it says: "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

You must believe that you HAVE RECEIVED your miracle the very moment you asked God, not after you see the miracle with your eye. Believe first and you will then see the miracle. If you do not believe and begin to thank God by faith, no miracle will manifest.

(b) KEY 2: You must pray for the sick with the compassion of Jesus flowing through you if you want to see God's miracle manifest. Be aware of the pain that others are undergoing and identify with their suffering, and have a great desire to see them blessed by God. This is compassion.

Do not pray for others without any form of empathy or feeling, or treat the sick as just an object. Do not pray for others just to show off your faith or just to build up your name and reputation. This is wrong motivation for praying for the sick. Pray with compassion.

It is recorded that Jesus always prayed with compassion as He prayed for the sick or fed them, as follows:

Matthew 15:32
Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”

Matthew 20:34
Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

Mark 1:41
Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”

Mark 6:34
When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.

PRAYER:
"Abba Father, fill our hearts with your compassion for others as we counsel them and pray for them.
You love them and feel great compassion for each of them.
Let Your compassion be our compassion and let it flow from our hearts to bless others.
In Jesus' name. Amen."
